Include all <GENRE> tags from one xml when filtering the movie by genre
Status: UnplannedHi again,
Most movies belong to several genres at the same time, because they can not be categorized by only one unique genre.
Let's consider the following example:
The 'Dead Man' by Jim Jarmush (http://www.themoviedb.org/movie/922) is determined as Action, Drama, Fantasy, Indie and Western. You may find this movie in TMDb by selecting any of these genres.
This information is also acquired by HUB and kept in the corresponding xml file in several <genre> tags.
Now, the problem is that when you filter movies by genre, the HUB reads only the first <genre> tag from the xml, so the 'Dead Man' is only shown when Action is selected, otherwise the movie does not appear. Moreover, you never get the rest genres in filter list, if they don't come as first tags in other xml files. This is not convenient at all!
To conclude:
Please, review the genre filtering logics; make it possible for the HUB to filter out the movie by any genre it might belong to according to its dedicated xml, thus, read all the <genre> tags, included in that xml.
I hope, the idea is clear.

I have also raised this issue with WD, as it is very annoying!!
I have also tried editing the XML data by deleting the genres i do not particularly think are appropriate, i.e Movie - A bug's Life- genre Action, Adventure, Animation. Animation genre is more suitable for my liking and my son can just go to animation for all his films.
The other benefit (WHICH IS A MASSIVE PLUS) is that by viewing using genre filter all the metadata for the film displays instantly when in gallery view!
WD- please let us know your thoughts?

Are you kidding me WD? Not only does the hub not include user inputted XML data, but you're going to leave the limit at 1 genre per item? Wouldn't these two items together be pretty easy to implement? I appreciate a lot of the cool things the Hub can do, but little things like this really tick me off.

What the **bleep**??? Unplanned? At least let us manually put the genre on the XML!!! This is DUMB. TheMovieDB is a POC with incorrect genres in almost EVERY MOVIE! You have to let us manually add the correct genre!

I can't believe this! Are you kidding, WD? You rely on data from TMDB? Who gurantees, that the very first GENRE tag aquired from the TMDB correctly describes movie's genre? Please, revise your DB structure, or at least give us possibility to change the GENRE tag, but the correct solution is to add both features:
1. Allow more than one genre tag for a movie.
2. Allow editing genre data from menu.

The capability to sort by an acceptable 'genre' is a critical missing capability in the WD TV Live Hub design. Adjusting XML file content clearly does not help - many postings testify to this. The ability to change an 'incorrect' first genre from a downloaded tmdb.org db would be terrific. The ability to add a missing (aka 'unknown') genre seems mandatory.
I love this 'time draining' black box toy. I'm also however, as numerous others, frustrated by inability to satisfactorily control filtering. In my case, I have many slide shows (I use ProShow to build) that I wish to filter.
If anyone has a work around solution I'd love to hear it as apparently WD firmware developers are unwilling to provide a fix for this problem...

Multiple genre support can already be accomplished through the use of playlists. Just create a playlist that includes all the 'action" videos, and then filter the movies by playlist. I have used WDTV HubGen to create XML files for the movies. Then I ran a batch file in DOS that pulls out all the 'genre' tags for each movie and builds separate playlist files for each genre in the form "action.m3u","animated.m3u", etc. By using WDTV HubGen the XML files created are easier to edit. This allows me to manually add non-standard genre tags which can be used to create personal "favorites" lists. Just add <genre>Steve's Favorites</genre> to the XML file and "Steve's Favorites.m3u" will be added like any other genre. A little more work - but a way around the single genre/single favorites restriction.
The guys at tech support were a big help in getting my playlists to work. Filenames in Hub playlists (unlike windows/DOS) are case sensitive and cannot have trailing space character(s).
