The remote needs to be able to send volume control signals directly to the TV.

Harmony Remote is nice. But the Price

Harmony Remote costs more than the WDTV SMP!

I don't care too much about volume control on the remote but a gain setting in the menu would be nice. My tv needs to be at 50 for normal tv watching and the WD needs to be around 15. It is very jarring and makes for a poor user experience.

Aldo the idea is great, but the only way to get this working for most TV's/Receivers is via HDMI. Analog volume controle on media players is as far as I know not possible do to the functionality of the used chipset in these cheaper mediaplayers. The problem with HDMI CEC on the other hand is that it depending how the HDMI CEC protocols are incorporated by the TV manufacturer. In some TV's the HDMI CEC is partially used. In fact in most TV's this is the case and there is the fact that the HDMI CEC is not implemented according the standard HDMI CEC protocol itself and therefore will not working properly on most TV or other HDMI CEC controlled devices. The same applies to other devices like Receivers and HDMI CEC controlled options.
