One of the reasons I bought this device was the reputation of the company and the fact that guys from WD listen to consumer community with proper respond.
The device is excellent, but there is one annoying behavior which is really unexpected from a media device of this class.
When the device is plugged in the power grid or when power is restored after power loss, default behavior of the device is: boot up into full operation mode.
This means that device is: loading GUI, starts internal HDD, starts LAN, HDMI, network share and DLNA service etc.
This is totally undesirable behavior from a media device.
For example, imagine your 52inch plasma TV, 7-channel AV receiver (1kW), satellite dish receiver etc. all power on after short power outage. DISASTER!!!
*
These are my ideas:
Add an option(s) in settings:
*
1. Default behavior at power up:
  Values (power states):
  - Stand by (everything down; Logo LED OFF; lowest power consumption) (Default)
  - Media sharing (active: LAN, Internal HDD, USB Ports, Sharing, Media Streaming; Logo LED Flash every 15 seconds)
  - Full power on (Media sharing + GUI and AV outputs; Logo LED ON)
*
(plus nice to haves)
*
Device should trigger power saving event after a certain time of inactivity.
2. Power Save Event Timer (PSE Timer):
  Values:
  - Off
  - 15 minutes
  - 30 minutes
  - 1 hour
  - [or just add an input field for user to enter desired number of minutes]
(plus we could add this countdown to the screen saver, when active)
*
What "power state" should be entered after PSE.
3. PSE Timer Behavior:
  Values:
  - Stand by
  - Media sharing
