Drop the 'THE'

Another feature request would be to ignore the 'THE' from video file names. So titles like 'The Godfather' show up with the titles under the letter 'G' rather than after the letter 'S'.

Metadata for entire folder

Hi,

i have many tv series on my drive and its pointless to add metadata for each file. It would  be nice to create one xml file with metadata to entire folder.

Noted. This is something we are looking into. Thanks for your feedback.

Faster menu navigation

Contrary to most people posting on the forums, my WD HD Live Hub works perfectly. My personal movie collection, blockbuster, netflix, photos, etc. Love it.

My only beef with the unit so far is the response time between the remote and on screen navigation. Let's say I want to scroll down 5 items. I am going to press the down button fairly rapidly until I am within 1-2 of my selection, then slow down my button presses until I reach my selection. It may be hardware limiting, but a remote / on screen sync that reacts within 50-100ms instead of what I feel like is 500ms per button press.

Support for Amazon on Demand?

by on ‎01-31-2011 08:50 AM

Blockbuster is fine, but could we get support for Amazon on Demand as well? Unlike Blockbuster, Amazon offers season passes on current TV shows. Thanks for considering.

Thanks for your input. We'll look into supporting Amazon's service.

Navigation by chapters in MKV with PREV / NEXT buttons

Now it works in dvd files (.ISO files and VIDEO-TS folder), but don't works in MKV

ps. this idea is also actual to MKA, TS and other containers that support the chapters

This sort of conflicts with the original purpose of NEXT/PREV which is to skip to the next or prev file. We'll evaluate this.

JUMP 10 SEC FORWARD, 30 SEC FORWARD...

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎01-25-2011 11:40 PM

This was discussed in the main forum a while back, cannot remember who suggested it, but a great idea.

Fast-forwarding in most codecs can be quite a nasty experience ! Why not utilize the arrow-keys (up, down, left, right) and make them "jump" ahead or back in the playing movie.

Say, left and right arrow, jump 10 sec. forward or backward. Up and Down, jump 30 sec. forward or backward...

zballz.

Status: Acknowledged
By pressing FF + Next keys, user can actually skip the video by 5min. Is that too much or better be user adjustable?

This may be in another suggestion, but if so I couldn't find it. Many of us out there create our own XMLs using ThumbGen or pre-load them with the_roggy's WDLiveMetaDataLoader that he was so kind to share with us. It would be a wonderful addition to the Hub if it would include these XMLs in the Media Library so when a user searches for a genre, actor, directory, etc.,  it includes these files in the search results as well, rather than only displaying files that have info loaded by the "Get Info" tool built into the hub.

Add an option to boot into standby at power on

Status: Acknowledged
by ‎01-08-2011 06:45 AM - edited ‎04-13-2011 12:20 AM

One of the reasons I bought this device was the reputation of the company and the fact that guys from WD listen to consumer community with proper respond.
The device is excellent, but there is one annoying behavior which is really unexpected from a media device of this class.
When the device is plugged in the power grid or when power is restored after power loss, default behavior of the device is: boot up into full operation mode.
This means that device is: loading GUI, starts internal HDD, starts LAN, HDMI, network share and DLNA service etc.
This is totally undesirable behavior from a media device.
For example, imagine your 52inch plasma TV, 7-channel AV receiver (1kW), satellite dish receiver etc. all power on after short power outage. DISASTER!!!
*
These are my ideas:
Add an option(s) in settings:
*
1. Default behavior at power up:
  Values (power states):
  - Stand by (everything down; Logo LED OFF; lowest power consumption) (Default)
  - Media sharing (active: LAN, Internal HDD, USB Ports, Sharing, Media Streaming; Logo LED Flash every 15 seconds)
  - Full power on (Media sharing + GUI and AV outputs; Logo LED ON)
*
(plus nice to haves)
*
Device should trigger power saving event after a certain time of inactivity.
2. Power Save Event Timer (PSE Timer):
  Values:
  - Off
  - 15 minutes
  - 30 minutes
  - 1 hour
  - [or just add an input field for user to enter desired number of minutes]
(plus we could add this countdown to the screen saver, when active)
*
What "power state" should be entered after PSE.
3. PSE Timer Behavior:
  Values:
  - Stand by
  - Media sharing

Display album art, info and background

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎02-03-2011 01:17 PM

Give the Music Player a nice UI like the Videos.  It can use the metadata of the files if scraping is too difficult.  But I would like to see a larger cover image of the album now playing or selected as well as some info about the artist and/or album.

Status: Acknowledged
The current design is fixed as is. We'll see how we can better utilize the display and metadata information in the UI during music is being played back.

Music Gapless playback

by on ‎01-27-2011 05:16 AM

Hi to every one!

I'm a very happy owner of this excellent Live Hub, but there is one thing that would be really cool!!!

As i'm a fan of live concert cd's, i would love to have a proper gapless playback, because actually it makes a pause between every track.

So please, it's not hard to buffer the next song and remove the pause between songs!!!

Thanks if you can make it!!!

Mathieu

This is something we are planning to do though it looks like there isn't a true standard on this on how content should be in gapless mode. We'll let you know when we have update. Thanks!

iPad / iPhone App...

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎03-23-2011 01:40 AM

While browsing the media files on the TV is nice, it would be great if there where an iPad / iPhone App which will allow you to see the movies, read the details and finally launch the video via the iPad.

My Girlfriend would love it (unfortunaltely here eyes are not so good to read the small fonts on the TV screen) and a lot of others. This does not need to be a free app...I'm willing to pay for it and so other will do....

Fast navigation/search idea !!

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎02-15-2011 02:55 AM

Say your in a video folder containing 250 files. You want to play the film "Terminator". Getting to that file can be somewhat of a hasle - either jump one page at a time, 22 pages ahead (or 11 backwards) until you see "Terminator". Or using the search option - which probably involves around 8-10 step and writing with the number/letter-keys and will take even longer!!!

Why not do it the easy and simple way: Just by pressing the number keys, a letter will appear on screen, and your list or pages will automatically jump to the first file starting with this letter.

In the "Terminator"-example, go to your folder pres the "8"-key and a "T" will appear, slight delay, and you jump ahead in the list where the files starting with "T" begin...

Wanna watch "Hotel Rwanda" - press the 4-key and a "G" appears, press again and the "H" appear, wait, list jumps to files beginning with "H"

This would truly ease the navigation in folders containing many files...

Thanks for your idea. This cell phone contact list like type of browsing method is something we have been evaluating. Will update if status change.

This is an important and highly demanded feature for any Russian HUB user and its crucial for future byers as well! Please, add Russian layout to the on-screen keyboard not only to be used in YouTube search, but also for manual content info retrieval, as well as add support for passing Russian filenames to themoviedb.org, since the latter is able to process Russian requests as well; try typing "Берегись автомобиля" in search line and you will get the correct movie info. So, to conclude:

1. Add Russian layout in virtual keyboard for search (YouTube, local storage, etc.) and manual content info retrieval.
2. Add support for reading and passing to themoviedb filenames in Cyrillic (Russian).
3. It would be also nice to have a quick keyboard shortcut to a language switching menu while typing multilingual text.

Thanks ahead for considering the idea!

Do not change videomode for desktop when the AutoFrame is ON

Status: Acknowledged
by ‎03-11-2011 04:27 AM - edited ‎03-11-2011 07:21 AM

AutoFrame - it is very good option. Thank you for it

I suggest slightly modify the logic of his work - do not change videomode after exit from video playback to menu.

TV has native videomode 1080p50
How AutoFrame works now -
menu - 1080p50
24fps movie - 1080p24
menu - 1080p50
24fps movie - 1080p24
menu - 1080p50
30fps movie - 1080p60
menu - 1080p50
6 switches

TV has native videomode 1080p50
I suggest -
menu - 1080p50
24fps movie - 1080p24
menu - 1080p24
24fps movie - 1080p24
menu - 1080p24
30fps movie - 1080p60
menu - 1080p60
2 switches

This logic can be optional for AutoFrame

for example,
Match video framerate

  • ON
  • ON (do not change videomode for desktop)
  • OFF

Two-Level Sorting (or more)

Thie would be especially helpful with the Music folders:

Sort 1: Artist - Alphabetically

Sort 2: Album - Alphabetically

For example, I would see:

ARTIST1 - ALBUM1

ARTIST1 - ALBUM2

ARTIST2 - ALBUM1

ARTIST2 - ALBUM2

etc....

Thanks. We are looking to better utilize the metadata information to display the files/albums.

MUCH sharper photos: Show photos in 1080p when set to auto mode.

Status: Acknowledged
by ‎02-22-2011 05:17 PM - edited ‎02-22-2011 05:18 PM

Please make the video "Auto" mode behave like it should: make it switch to 1080p when showing photos.

For several reasons I prefer to have my Hub's video set to "Auto".

The interface is nice and speedy at the usual 720p@60Hz.

Movie playback is perfect and switches to 1080p24Hz when needed.

But it has one major flaw: It does not switch to 1080p when showing photos.

I have a lot of  photos in 1920 x 1080 resolution on the Hub, and when set to the "Auto" video mode, the Hub scales them down to 1280 x 720, then my TV scales it back to 1920 x 1080 again losing a heap of picture quality in the process.

As a result of this, I have to switch to 1080p to watch photos, then switch back to "Auto" for normal use.

BTW: I have tried the 1080p24 mode, but the 24Hz makes the interface very sluggish compared to a 60Hz mode.

P.S. The best solution would be to make this a user selectable option.

We'll see what we can do about the AUTO mode switch for photo. Thanks!

Forced aspect ratio!

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎01-05-2011 12:47 PM

Dear developer crew .. as stated many times in this section: forcing an aspect ratio for the playing movie is a must! .. just replaced my O!Play with your Live Hub product - yes, faster, better, but desperately missing some optimization in the area of forced aspect ratio and zoom! Check out your competitors device .. and by the way, the jpeg zoom function is very, very poor - again, see how Asus managed to implement a good performing high quality up-rendering ..

thx!!

Ditch the Black Box!

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎03-18-2011 12:29 AM

No, I don't mean the Black Box that is the WDTV Live Hub.

Please either get rid of, or add the icon to the theme OSD  the black box that appears behind the the FOCUSED icon on the Main Menu so that it can be edited.

This limits the style  that can be created for themes for the main menu (also service menus that use the same style).

Create Music Playlists

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎02-03-2011 01:13 PM

I would love the option to create music playlists while browsing albums and audio files.  While a folder or file is highlighted, click "Options" and add a selection to "Add to Playlist" and select an existing Playlist or Create New Playlist.

Status: Acknowledged
Thanks for your comment. Currently we have the Queue feature which allows user to build up a queue of media for playback. We will see what we can do about the playlist support specifically in the future.
