-

Which device?

WDTV LIVE HUB (HENCE THE CATEGORY OF THIS THREAD)

-

Which firmware?

2.08.13

-

Thumbnails that are being created by the hub and stored into the Thumb folder are massively overcompressed and crop the image incorrectly

VIEW THE EXAMPLE

I have tried to reproduce the compression and noticed that there is a 73% compression which leaves the image with 23% of it's originak quality.

On my TV (Samsung UE55 D8000 - German Name / Samsung UN55D8000YF - US Name) this cannot be accepted for High Def Entertainment.

The images are shrinked and cropped without anti aliasing that which makes the image loose visible content on top of that the overcompression and the lack of rounded edges cause the mosaic effect that must be prevented from showing on the final thumbnail.

-

What were you doing?

Nothing in particularm, brwosing my folders in several view modes

-

Does this happen every time?

Everytime

-

What hardware and media were you using?

Live Hub

-

Did this happen with previous firmware?

Never

-

Does power cycling the unit solve this?

No

-

Does resetting to factory defaults solve this?

No

Save for Web and Devices works great for Live Hub. Unfortunately if you have an older WDTV on the same network, (I have a WDTV Live networked on another tv in the house), it makes the thumbs look worse on that. So with me I had to make a choice which one I wanted the thumbnails to look better on. It's kind've ridiculous really, WD doesn't seem to have much in the way of standardizing the way their systems are.

The issue is resolved for JPG images in FW 3.03.16

PNG files are still being cropped and compressed way too hard

Here are source file (cover) and generated hub files for JPG and PNG

Unless this has not been fixed with the current firmware, we will close this issue out due to its age.

Semi fixed regular thumbnails under 95kb show normals again, larger ones still end up pixelated

C'mon Mod Jubei04 get real and do your job properly by checking whether the issue has been fixed or not, rather by lazily speculating that it it isn't a problem by the 'date/ age' of Devicious' post!!!

Unreal..and shame on YOU!!

Grrrrrrrr!!!!!

PS- Thanks to Devicious for your meticulous response and UP-TO-DATE report on this ongoing issue!
