Playing ISO Files Reboots Hub after 3.04.17

- Which firmware?

3.04.17

- What happened?

Screen goes blank and WDTV Live Hub reboots.

- What were you doing?

Selected an .iso movie file stored on internal storage to play. Name and progress bar appear in lower third of screen as normal. Then screen goes black and WTV Live Hub reboots.

- Does this happen every time? Yes. Only for .iso files. .mkv and dvr-ms files play as before.

- What hardware and media were you using?

Internal drive on WDTV Live Hub, using .iso media. Playing to Sony HDTV via HDMI.  Audio to SOny receiver via digital out.

- Did this happen with previous firmware?

No. 3.03.16 did not exhibit the issue.  Further rolling back to 3.03.16 restores the ability to play .iso files.

- Does power cycling the unit solve this?

No.

- Does resetting to factory defaults solve this?

Not willing to wipe out my settings to find out. Restoring the previous firmware did resolve the issue.

- Have you tried this on other devices?

Yes. We have a WDTV Media Player which used to be able to play and access these files via the media server on the the WDTV Live Hub. Now with firmware 1.08.17 it states that the .iso is an Invalid format (consult user manual). Other file types, such as .mkv return an error that the media device is no longer available. This is despite being able to successfully navigate the media listings.  Have not rolled back player (gen 3) firmware yet.

 * Update:  After rolling back the firmware on the WDTV Live Hub, the WDTV Streaming Media Player can access and play the Hub-served iso files once more.  The problem seems to be local to the hub running FW 3.04.17.

I had this problem as well. I set Match Video Framerate to off in setup, as suggested by other users. That fixed the problem for me.

Confirmed that with Video set to: HDMI, Resolution=Auto, Color=Auto, Match Video Framerate=On the issue occurs with 3.04.17.

Confirmed that with Video set to: HDMI, Resolution=Auto, Color=Auto, Match Video Framerate=Off the .iso files play.

In the previous firmware (3.03.16) the .iso files play regardless of which Match Video Framerate option is selected.

Yes it seems that this problem is new to the 3.04.17 firmware. It seems that the Live Streaming player has the same problem after it's latest FW update.

I did not have any issues with my WDTV Live Streaming Player once I rolled back the firmware on the Hub (playing media sourced from the Hub).  I updated the firmware on the hub (3.04.17) to confirm badmem's work around.

Your note about the streaming player caused me to try playing on it again.  No problem.

So here were the settings:  HDMI, 720p/60Hz, Auto, 12-bit.  Note no frame rate option (prseumably because the frequency was selected with the resolution).    Great plays normally.

Now I tried to reproduce the problem by changing to:

HDMI, Auto, Auto, On: Streaming player reboots.

Ok, no problem, I'll try the same workaround:

HDMI, Auto, Auto, Off:  Now I get the 'unable to play content, check user manual error' I saw originally.

Uh oh.

So I went back to the original settings:

HDMI, 720p/60Hz, Auto, 12-bit: "Unable to play content, check user manual."

So something _persistently_ changed after making one of the changes above that now prevents that unit from working.  I'll probably try a few other things, but I may need to revert the FW.

Update:

I did a factory reset and reestablished the network link to the Hub's media share.  The .iso files play again on the WDTV Live streaming player (with the latest FW).  From browsing, but not changing, the video settings it appears the unit is back to HDMI, Auto, Auto, Off.

I confirmed it on my Hub as well.

Attempting to play a local .iso file with the "Match Frame Rate" toggled ON in the HDMI settings will cause a Full Reboot of the Hub. Just as if one had powered it all the way down. IMHO this should get fixed ASAP. As I read other posts above this one, it may actually be the cause of other problems.....

Folks, since this is most likely an HDMI EDID issue, it'd be helpful for ya'll to post your TV Mfg and exact model # so WD can compare and look for commonalities..

The Hub is connected to a Sony Bravia 32" KDL-32S5100 using HDMI for video only (audio is disabled on the TV).

The player is connected to a Sony Bravia 32" KDL-32BX320 for video and audio.

I found that Video set to: HDMI, Resolution=Auto, Color=Auto, Match Video Framerate=Off

that the player didn't crash anymore, but I could only hear the audio and the screen was black.  I then set the Video output to match my tv which I know is 720p, 60Hz, color space auto, Deep color to 12 bit, than  ISO's once again play just fine.
