WD Please Review - No Audio with latest Firmware

Status: Investigating

Which firmware?

3.05.10

- What happened?

Audio does not work with some files that work fine with 3.04.17.

- What were you doing?

Simply trying to watch these files. Audio was MPEG and Video MPEG-4. Audio was Digital using HDMI but also does not work when just selecting Stereo.

- Does this happen every time? Yes but not all files.

- What hardware and media were you using?

Internal drive on WDTV Live Hub, using a variety of files. Playing to Panasonic Panel via HDMI.

- Did this happen with previous firmware?

No. Files work fine with 3.04.17, rollback fixes issue.

- Does power cycling the unit solve this?

No.

- Does resetting to factory defaults solve this?

No. Reset with no change.

- Other Devices

My other Live Hub is on 3.04,17 and files work fine. I had significant issue with rollback from 3.05.10 - the new firmware icon does not appear and I had to use a workaround to restore previous firmware.  I followed the official process using the correct file so would appreciate advice on what to do when you have no 'New Firmware' menu item.

I have a similar problem. My firmware updated last night to 3.05.10. No audio playing videos or music from builtin local WD drive. I do have audio streaming netflix etc. I have rebooted numerous times, changed the video and audio options to manual etc. and nothing works. I think the firmware update is the root cause as I did not have any of these problems prior to the firmware update. I also noticed the firmware update wiped out most of my custom configuration setting. I do not think the firmware updates I have before did this.

I have the exact same issues with this latest firmware as stated by BlueMax99.  This has been in review for 2 weeks now.  Is there any update to this?

I have the same issue.  I use digital passthrough via Optical only to my reciever, with DTS and Dolby Digital selected.

Hulu plus (and I think Netflix) worked fine.   All local files (mp3s, mkv, avi) in addition to Pandora had no audio.

Rollback to 3.04.17 fixed all problems.

I have the same issue with some files recorded on WMC converted to dvr-ms format.

If it shows up with dolby digital audio when it starts to play, i have sound.  If it shows up as MPEG, i do not.

Post conversion, audio  exists in the file and will play on the media center always.  Additionally i can convert the dvr-ms format file to megp2 and will have audio and it will play on the live hub.

Status has been investigating for 2.5 months -- can we get a current update?
