A Mod has deleted the WD Support replies in my posting above as I am not allowed to paste their comments, which is a shame as I believe their responses clearly show that even WD Support do not understand the advertised spec. As you may gather from my replies, I was asked to return the unit as a faulty unit. They have promised me that my incident number will not be timed out and that I will receive a reply to this problem.

@wdigital
I get transfer speeds of about 2.5 - 3.0 Mbytes per sec. I have a gigabit network connected through a HP Procurve gigabyte managed switch. From computer to computer I get speeds of 60 - 70 Mbytes per sec. (Cat5 cable). The hub is connected directly to the switch. Again CAT5 cable.
On the WD hub box it states gigabit LAN. I bought the WD hub, instead of another manufacturer, for specifically that reason.
I see an extreme difference. A factor of 20. I'd like to see the face of the director of WD when he goes out to the car dealer and buys his Porsche 911 turbo and finds out on the freeway that the car only does 15 kilometers per hour, and maybe on a good day he has a max. speed of 60kph, instead of the advertised speed of around 300 kph.
False advertising.

I have one of my PCs on a wireless card only because I'm too lazy to fish a cat5 cable down the wall. But the other night I noticed I was getting less than 1meg, something like 750kb speed! Wow what a pitiful speed. It was gonna take several hours to move a file from that PC to the hub!
Well I found out the new Radio Shack wireless rear speaker adapter I installed on my sound system was the problem. Good thing it has 3 different channels you can change it to. So I slid the switch to ch2 and my wifi got back to normal speed!
Check your area for anything that's wireless using the 2.4 ghz range. Unplug all wireless devices and see if things clear up on your PCs connection.
Of course if you are using cat5 this won't mean nuttin'.....

When you say "Homeplugs" are you talking about those network power adapters that you plug in to the electric socket? If that's the case, well, good luck with those. I've had two different brands, one set was WD's, niether set was worth a hoot and got returned. If you're on two different circuits with them or if the circuit has an ARC FAULT breaker (not the same as a GFI type breaker) it just isn't going to work well enough unless you're really lucky.
