Make the thumbnails work properly in network shares

Browsing video in network shares also shows the jpeg images separately (unlike locally attached drives) making them practically useless.  Make the network shares video browsing work exactly the same as local drives (namely: hide the thumbnail jpegs except as standins for the videos)

We'll see what we can do about this. Because a Network Share drive is not the same as a USB storage, the support is a bit difficult as there are more uncertainties.

If you are above the hardware abstraction level aren't they just the same?

How about placing all the thumbnails in a seperart  folder called "movie thumbnail" how we could get all the movies to listen to this directory.

I think people can accept this solution.

+1

I use my WDTV live only with network shares.

Thumbnails support is completely broken, as explained above.

How is it possible that this still isn't working properly?

I also use WDTV live only on network shares.

The thumbnail mess drives me crazy. I have my shares on a ReadyNas Duo.

In file share mode, folder and files have the thumbnails but I also have thumbnails JPGs scattered all over. Not acceptable

In media server mode, the folders do not have thumbnails for some reason, only the files.

There really is no good reason imo that this hasn't been fixed yet, and if it's the programmers that are telling you that it's "hard" to fix then you just need to replace them with people who CAN get the job done.  What's worse is that the thumbnail system has actually degraded and isn't even as "stable" (if you could ever call it stable) as when I got it.  Now, I (along with many others) who have more than 100 folder.jpg files (at least I've been told that that's the "cause") can't even cache all of our thumbnails without the unit freezing and requiring a hard reset.  This is only as of the latest firmware, 1.02.21, but that firmware is now 2 months old and they haven't done anything to fix what they broke.  Please WD, listen to us, and fix this stuff.

WD take your customers seriously !!!!  Being a software developer myself the remark made seems strange. From a customer perspective the remark 'we'll see wat we can do' is ridiculous. The software is faulty and should be fixed to operate properly. Meanwhile I will advise my friends not to buy ....

I agree I have really wanted to use the network connectivity .... but I have been waiting for this fix.  It is a really bad design and makes it very difficult to use when you have a large number of items with thumbnails.  Please fix this soon!!!  I would really love to use the network!!!

I vote this fix is needed asap!

I vote fix this annoying BUG too.  Why have media categories if you're going to show all filetypes?

Ditto for me. Please make this a priority - I'm using this product via network share only.

As a new owner of 3 units, this is really the one dissapointment I've had.  :/  People with serious collections are simply not going to be storing them via connected usb drives (especially with multiple units involved).  They are also the most likely one to want to have thumbs for their collection so it's rather frusterating.  I do embedded systems work myself and really this shouldn't be all that difficult to fix given your naming rule.  Please help out the power users who help to spread the word on devices like this!
