Not seeing new movies added to folder since adding folder to library

I am not seeing new movies that were added to my file share until I remove the folder from the Windows 7 library and readd it.  I have indexing enabled, so I'm not sure what the problem is.  I saw this post, which seems to indicate the problem isn't just an issue I'm facing, but there has to be a better solution than what was provided:

I assume you're using WMP12 to stream? Indexing seems to work sometimes and not others, I open WMP12 and see if it updates its own database. This can prompter it to reindex what it is serving. Otherwise find "C:\Users\****\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Media Player" folder, delete the files and force it to reindex.

I dont use wmp12. I simply added these folders to the library and shared them.
