I have ripped a number of my 3D blu ray's to mkv using DVDFab 8.1.7.8 and all play fine except The Lion King and Beauty And The Beast.
Obviously they are compatible video formats wrapped in a MKV container as are all my blu ray rips but these two refuse to play.
Looking at the media info can anyone suggest why they keep coming up as unsupported file type?

tried ripping as a m2ts file and it plays but stutters, overall bitrate is 43Mbps maybe this is the issue?

Not sure if this is the ONLY thing, but one thing is that the vertical resolution is wrong.. 1080 is the max; this file is 1110.
It also says it's High@L5.1 The highest profile supported by the WDTV are High@L4.1.

Tony you were spot on, I was just coming back to update my post and read yours. Using DVDFab I cropped the video size to 1920 x 1080 and re-encoded and it worked like a dream.
If High@L5.1 is unsupported it does work although in my second encode I dropped the bitrate to 25Mbps so when combined with audio comes to around 30Mbps.

Right; as with any format, if it's not in the supported specifications, it MIGHT work, but it might not.
So you're simply taking a gamble using an unsupported profile.
Good to know you've got it sorted!
