Is your network share set up so that there is no password? I was getting the same exact error you are getting when I had my network share set up with no password and full guest access. As soon as I set up a user name and password to be required for the share things just started working.

1 Add NAS user (for example WDTVLIVE with n/empty password)
2 Turn off auto access in network setup of WDTV
3 Go to the NAS as shared res.
4 enter user and password (for example WDTVLIVE with n/empty password) and walk through share
5 return into WDTV network setup
6 Turn on auto access in network setup of WDTV

Great response. You seem to be the only who who actualy READ the problem. I came here with the same problem and as usual the last solution gets it right. Thank you.

thanks for great advise, i have the same problem after upgrading to the new version, it made me a whole day searching around to solve that and now it works like a charm
in the other hand, you don't need to soft reset or hard reset the device after upgrading, just power off for minutes, then turn the WD Live on, enter network configuration and choose OFF 'auto network login' then, delete 'login information'(just below). Now dig into the share folders on lan with administrator username, passwork blank, and voila everything has coming back ![]()
you should turn ON 'auto network login' after the device get on lan.

Windows XP
I had the same problem but then after looking at the permissions of the folders I realized that the WDLive was not being inherited to the files in the folder.
In a nutshell
Just go into User Accounts in Control Panel on your networked computer
Create a user name, give it limited access and then assign a password it. Remember the name and password.
Go to your WD box and under settings clear your login information turn Off auto login.
Go to file management and access your network share drive.
When prompted enter the user and password you just created on your computer.
Go back to network settings and turn back on the Auto Log In.
Now when you share a folder on your network computer it will show up on the WDTV
Also to save time if all your music is MP3 you can play from Music Files or Movie Files ![]()

I can only tell you my scope of the same problem.
************************************
FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE STILL NOT WORKING
************************************
I have 2 servers 1 domain and 10 workstations in my home.
They are all joined to the domain. My problem was I was providing a domain login.
I used wdplayer as the user and 123 as the password.
I tried
U=wdplayer
and
U=housedomain\wdplayer
Neither worked.
I added a user LOCALLY on the workstation.
U=wdlocal
P=123
I input that into my player and it got access to the network shares no problem at all.
I can completely browse them and also access multiple shares on one system.
Hope this helps.
