Netflix support in pal Europe version?

Hi. Does anyone know if I can flash us firmware (or is there us specific one) to pal version and get Netflix service? Is there any differential in hardware like between wd TV live and wd TV live plus?

Even if you do that you won't get it to work since your IP address tells you're not in the US.

I think what he's getting at is whether or not the box is ready when the UK launches netflix next year.

Then based on the Live Plus, we have two outcomes:

Canada: Worked after the update to Netflix 3.0 as the original device allowed it

                                                  /

                                                 /

Netflix on WDTV Live PLus:

                                                 \

                                                   \

Latin America: Physical original device not supported, needing a new region-specific version

Is there any specific US firmware and if not... how does it detect which services to install?

I tried to change the mode from pal to ntsc by keeping the reset button down for at least 20s and it didn't work. Is the mode changing supported on this new model and will it then show me the netflix service and hulu?

No, all firmware packages are global.   The only exception to that I know of is the LivePLUS which currently has a different firmware package for the Latin america, but I suspect that's because it was released AFTER the current firmware for all the others.

We'll see if that changes when a general upgrade is done.

All services are "installed."   It's a matter of which services are DISPLAYED.   It determines this via a combination of Geolocation of IP address, and hardware detected.

This only works if you're using COMPOSITE VIDEO.   Is that what you're using?

Yes.

No.

Composite video... why is it needed? 10s reset mode switch doesn't work if I don't use that connection? Sounds strange...

Re: Netflix support in pal Europe version?

With HDMI, the WD can detect whether your device is PAL or NTSC automatically.

It cannot do that with COMPOSITE, so that's why it must be set using hardware.

Good day

I have  not done it myself yet but you need to put your IP address to USA.

Since it is not possible in the software from WD "suckz" then you need to set it up in your router via a VPN network
