Re: Streaming 1080p stalls

[ Edited ]

Hopefully WD can enable the 5GHz band in a future update. That should solve all streaming problems if you use 40MHz channels.

I asked this to wd support:

Does WD TV Live Streaming Media Player support both router's 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands?

    Got this response:

So, I assumed that 5ghz band was supported... isn't that true?

I need to buy a router. Which one do you suggest? Could anyone stream 1080p through wifi?

Thanks!

It's incredible they didn't answer being clear.

Do anyone know which hardware uses wifi?

Which wifi router would you pick for streaming 1080p?

I read some 300mbps routers only work at that speed with their own same brand receptors...

Re: Streaming 1080p stalls

If you just have 1 HDD of media you'd be better off just buying one HDD for each SMP and attaching that.

Wireless streaming is really pushed on the SMP...or anything, unless the router is right next to it, which is of course impossible for several SMPs spread around your house.

Alternately, you could hard wire the router to each player.

My media is mainly on a few NASs, but given the choice I'd have the media attached to the SMP.  Much better, much faster, far fewer issues.

From what I read in threads and forums around the internet it's the same fort every player.

I am with Virgin Media and  am on a 30Mb connection. My Netgear Super Hub is in the hall and my WD Live is in the lounge , I connect wirelessly and I get 1080 no problem with continuous use with no stuttering. I don't know if your with a cable provider but the most stable connection is through cable if it is with other providers then the speed can fluctuate a lot causing 1080 viewing to stutter.

Re: Streaming 1080p stalls

I have a 300mbps wireless router. I also have  150mbps wireless in my PC. If I connect the SMB using wireless I can't even play DVD's without innediate stuttering. The SMB is right next to my router so signal strength is not an issue.

If I connect the SMB using a wired connection to the router (PC connected wireless), I can play DVD's and BD's without an issue. Even that didn't work until I awitched to using a static IP address for the SMB. (Tip found on another thread).
