WDTV Live gen 3 & HDMI-CEC

Hello everyone. I purchased WDTV Live gen 3 last week and so far I am happy with it. My setup is a Panasonic Viera P50VT30, Pioneer VSX-S300 AVR, one satelite receiver and WDTV Live all connected through HDMI (Sat Receiver and WDTV with HDMI to AVR and from AVR one HDMI to TV). Nice and smooth...

...or maybe not. AVR and TV work flawlessly with Control with HDMI functionality thanks to Panasonic and Pioneer sharing their expertise in that (Kuro link and Viera link are almost the same). I can switch on AVR through the TV, control it through TV etc. My AVR has also a feature known as Standby Pass Through. This mean that you can use all devices connected to the AVR without switching it on. You simply have HDMI signal passed through the AVR to the TV so you can have a/v through it.

Before continuing, I verified with Pioneer that everything is setup properly. However, I don't get audio or video from WDTV Live through the TV while the AVR is in standby. My sat receiver is not supporting HDMI-CEC but I thought WDTV Live Gen 3 does. I knew it was broken at some point but I am running f/w 1.06.04 and since 1.05.18 I read in release notes that HDMI-CEC is fixed.

My question is, whether it really supports HDMI-CEC or not. This functionality (standby pass through) requires all devices to support it. I've read many forums about it and all comes to the fact of whether a device supports it or not. So far, WDTV Live gen 3 seems it doesn't. Not sure if I have to activate something in WDTV setup. This feature is very important when you simple want to watch some youtube videos or use some of the other apps that do not require the AVR to function.

Any help in this issue is appreciated.

Re: WDTV Live gen 3 & HDMI-CEC

You have to switch it on.

Setup / Audio Video Output / HDMI CEC / on

Re: WDTV Live gen 3 & HDMI-CEC

Hi. It was switched on before I update fw to 1.06.04 but didn't check the functionality. I did the upgrade and when I checked it didn't seem to work. A friend recommended me to do a reset to factory settings and put it on again and voila! It works now. Same friend recommended me to usually do a reset to factory setting after f/w upgrades. Not sure if he is correct or not but definitely helped in the case of HDMI-CEC. Great feature BTW and great the WDTV Live supports it! :smileyhappy:

He is correct, if you have problems then the first thing to do is a reset to factory defaults.
