Please Please Please can you add DTS-MA passthrough to your new WDTV Live device/s, this would be an awesome feature for people who have decent amps so they can enjoy loseless audio.

Status: Unplanned
Unfortunately, this is still prohibited by the DTS licensing group.

Netgear's NTV550 is a similar product (in that it is made by a large corporation that follows the rules, not some dodgy chinese outfit like Xtreamer).

Even the NTV550 offers DTS-MA pass-thru, which is all we really want.  It does NOT support external BD-ROM devices, so they are not licensing it as a BD player.  It has the exact same DTS 2.0 + Digital Out certification as the WD TV Live units.

I'd love to hear an explanation for why Netgear can do this and WD can't.

Don't forget that in addition to Netgear's media players, Boxee Box, Dune, Xtreamer, Popcorn Hour, and etc. have been capable of both HD audio formats for over a year, now.  Why is WDTV left out in the cold on this matter?  It's 2012, DTS-HD MA has been requested since the launch of WDTV almost 4 years ago, November 2008.

Dolby TrueHD is far from standard these days, count the number of Blu-ray movies you own that contain a Dolby TrueHD track...  DTS-HD MA dominates Blu-ray.

When the competitors support both HD audio formats, how long can WDTV users believe this is some licensing issue?  Do we need to say please?

PUH-LEASE!!!

DTS licensing problem ? Please, be serious, I don't know why it would be the case if it's just bitstream. Even my old Popcorn PCH-A200 (without any optical player) could decode it.

I just bought the WD TV Live Streaming and I was disappointed when I saw that DTS HD, that most of my bluray rips have, wasn't supported.

Most of my library is using DTS HDMA and not Dolby TrueHD.

PLEASEE PLEASEE ADD SUPPORT

The "Unfortunately, this is still prohibited by the DTS licensing group." is ridiculous excuse. I have to add HiMedia to the list of smp manufacturers that support DTS-MA.

I am planning to sell/get rid of WDTV Live gen 3 next Christmas and this is the main reason, lack of DTS-MA support. I have a Pioneer AVR, I want to get the max out of it.

WD should either implement this or stop fooling the people who spent money on their products and simple say 'we don't want'.

If a tiny company like SageTV can support DTS-HD passthrough on their HD300 media player (which is supposedly almost the same internal hardware as in the WD SMP) I also have to question the legitamacy of WD's response on this issue.

Sorry but you are full of it when you say "Unfortunately, this is still prohibited by the DTS licensing group.". If Boxee, Neo550, Popcorn Hour, XStreamer, Sage, Dune and others can support a simple pass-thru of DTS-MA, then so can you.

GET IT DONE already and stop making excuses.

I really hope WD sort this out.

Maybe the people who work on the Firmwares just are not smart enough to figure it out. It's the only thing that makes sense. As the licensing excuse sure doesn't for pass thru DTS-MA.
