Device Settings Backup

If you need to do a reset to factory defaults, it would be handy to have the option to save a backup of user settings (logons, online service account info, network share configurations, etc.) before you reset. Perhaps you could use the front USB slot for insertion of a flash drive to hold the data.

i asked the same question months ago and i was laughed at! i really like this option it would save me a lot of time, because of my disability! its a real hassle typing a lot of information back into the devices i have four of these i really love them so far! but it could take me a week to do all 4 devices! so please add this option!

Sorry to say that if you do a factory reset and then restore the backups you made you will have no benefits...

I agree with the users suggestion posts. I have 3 WDTV Live devices with only 1 settng being different between them and that is the actual IP address but I have had to change a good 20 or so settings to get it how I want for my cocnfiguration. If I ever have a device lose its settings I am going to have to refer to my notes and then go through the whole reconfiguration again. A backup of configuraion would be immensely helpful nd the reason I came across this post.

Factory reset and then recovery of configuration could easily help because you could get it working as you want. backup the configuration. Make changes and then feel free to get it messed up any way from that setting forward because you could then go back and reflash back to the "good settings".

Just because naysayers may not see any benefit does not mean those of us who just invested days of configuration may like an easier way to do the settings backup than me going through every settings configuration and writing it down on some document because there is no backup option. Here is to hoping smeone comes up with some kind of device backup DRichter4764

I agree.  I have two WDTV Live SMP's, and would this feature has two benefits.

A. Would be nice to be able to "restore" user settings when resetting to factory specs.

B. Would be very nice to be able to use the backed up settings from WDTV Live to configure another WDTV Live.
