HDMI and Optical audio at the same time

It would be very helpful  if you could allow sending audio to multiple outputs (Optical, HDMI). In my case I have a situation where I need to output audio to a receiver (optical) and to a TV (HDMI). However in the setup menu you can only choose one audio output at a time. So hopefully in the next firmware it is as easy as allowing for multiple.

Thanks for your consideration!

I'm guessing this may be a security feature required of the media companies...

+1  Same scenario for me.  I need the HDMI for my TV, so the kids and the wife don't have to deal with the sound system.  But I'd also like the optical out to function so I can use the sound system easily when I choose to.

Absolutely agree with this request. For me it would be helpful to allow Stereo at the same time as either HDMI or Optical.

I have a Yamaha multi zone receiver and zone 2/3 do not accept audio from digital sources. This means that I have to set the WD TV Live to Stereo if I want to use zone 2/3 (only used for music through my outdoor speakers). I then have to set the WD TV Live back to HDMI or Optical if I want to watch a movie with the sound through the receiver main zone.

Thanks,

Eric

I guess this feature already exists!

I have attached the device to my TV through HDMI cable. I've also attached the WD TV to my Home Theater system through Optical cable. I do have Audio through both TV and Home Theater

This feature does not officialy exist. In the settings menu, there is a choice between HDMI only or optical only. However, sometimes both outputs start delivering digital signal simultaniously.

It would be nice, but it's rather a bug than a normal behavior:

1) it doesn't always do it.

2) after such event of palying DD 5.1 contents via HDMI and Toslink, playing of stereo audio files produces something like white noise with the quiet original audio in background.

+1 for the mod: need to  be able to watch TV shows (via HDMI) without trunring on receiver, as well as to listen to the music via receiver (connected via optical) without turning on TV.

+1 for the mod given we have multiple out put devices in our entertainmentment system.. One prim example would be to only listen to music w/o the screen on..

In order to use zone-2 functionality found from many amps today, we need to be able to have simultaneous analog stereo audio and digital audio. It's a pain, if one has to change between analog and digital output all the time. That cannot be even done through the web interface or Android app without tv being on, so using zone-2 to with this player is not practical.
