Have Media Library in one Shared Folder

It rang alarm bells for me when I had to enable read/write access to all my shared folders to add them to the media library. It opens up a massive security hole, where anyone using the TV can delete your entire media collection.

I have a Netgear EVA8000 which handles this much better: you select a single location (network or local) to hold the media library. All my media files are in read-only file shares, and I have one empty files share to store the media library which the Netgear has access to. Way more sensible and secure.

I have read of several cases where people have lost all their films/music by inadvertently pressing the wrong button on the remote, and this is easily averted by using this method of storing the media library.

agree. have made the same suggestion here: http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Ideas/Store-Media-Library-data-in-separate-folder/i... this method has been used by popcorn hour (YAMJ) for years now and works quite well.

I agree about wanting read-only access. I want to completely rule out any loss of data from the WD device side.
