Provide an Interface in the GUI for playing music

It would be nice to have this interface so that people can use it for just playing music ( no video ) through SMP.  With this provision, users don't have to turn on TV to make the selections.

User can preset music to the alphanumeric keys to one touch playback

Select, play, skip, music files from "WD TV Remote" app for android/iphone with TV off.

This should also include the ability to use the Spotify plugin without turning the TV on

I second these suggestions. I bought this unit today because I assumed, reading that an Android remote app was available, that I would at least be able to browse and play audio without using the TV. I'm astounded that the app is basically only a button-for-button replacement for the remote that already comes with the unit! If I don't hear in the next few days that this app is coming, I'm returning this thing.

The facility to select audio from local USB storage via smartphone (without the need for a PC media server) would transform this product. It's perfectly possible: the iOS app 'ZappoTV HD' brings this functionality to my WDTV Live Streaming player, albeit with a clumsy bug or two (the only way seems to be to first select audio which then plays on my iPad, stop the audio, then select 'Play on WDTV'!) If folks are willing to run a PC 24/7 then many Android upnp apps will allow remote control of the WDTV box via Windows Media Player 12 or free servers such as TVersity, but why be so complicated and energy inefficient when there is functioning proof that an app can deliver such desirable functionality. It would surely be a huge selling point for the WD Hardware...

Well the preset only allows 10 songs. But why one would preset when one would prefer to select and listen whatever he/she wants to. Secondly the preset requires TV be on. The intention of this idea is provide an interface so people can choose whatever they want to listen and not to turn on TV.

I am missing this capability too to play music from a PC over the WD TV Live into a stereo/amplifier w/o the need to have the TV on. Possible solutions could be to make the WD TV Live a 'remote soundcard' or to have a player on the PC to send the audio stream over a proprietary protocol, etc.

Has anybody tried iMediashare for iPod and Android to control playback and selection? I understand the WD players are compatible.

The DLNA players (iMediaShare, ZappoTV, PlayTo...) can access the files thats are stored on the WD USB port.

Please update WD TV Remote to browse local music.

Other idea : In TuneIn, the 0 - 9 buttons could be used to switch the preselected radios.
