Video time skip feature

When watching movies locally/network it would be nice to be able to skip backwards/forwards instantly. My Samsung TV has this feature and they implemented it by skipping 10 seconds backwards or forwards when pressing the left or right arrows respectively. Currently the arrow buttons don’t seem to have any existing functionality when watching something so it seems like they are available. So if you could please consider a 10 second (configurable?) skip.

Thanks!

There can be some variations. My Comcast DVR has 30-second skip (can be programmed on a remote key) and 15-second review (button on remote), along with 5 minute skip/review (uses page up/down buttons). 30 seconds is the typical length of a commercial.

If/when they fix the skip forward/back issue, it would be nice if they didn't forget audio. Listening to long podcasts or audiobooks is very aggravating as it is.

Agree with this, it's a must.

30 secs on left/right arrows

60 or 90 secs on up/down good idea too

and the numbers can be used too:

0-> begging of movie

1-> 10% of the movie

2-> 20%

.

.

8 -> 80%

9->90%

Agree completely!!!  I really don't understand why this feature was left off. It might even be a fatal flaw for me - I have not watched much on the unit yet, but even now I am annoyed every single time I play someting as I always skip over the leading credits. Now I cannot - and every time I press the arrow keys - just out of habit. Very frustrating.

If there is one function that will make me chuck this thing in the bin (or return it), this will be it.

Support this too. The current style is like an old video cassette recorder, but the CPU cannot handle most streams at 8x or 16x. Best is to follow PC media players to jump instead of speeding up.

I had a Pioneer DVR that had a skip function that I really liked.  When you pushed the skip function once, it skipped 30 seconds (I think).  If you rapidly pushed the button 4 times, it would skip ahead 2 minutes etc.  If you held it down, it would show on the screen a time counter that would accelerate the skip time until you let up, then it would skip ahead that amount of time.  Worked beautifully....the exact opposite can be said of the WD implementation.

Yes this fast forward thing needs improvement.  my x2,x4,x8 is very choppy so i would prefer to skip instead. My DVR and my last DVD player skip 30 seconds which is just perfect.  I do not like that pressing the skip buttons will skip to the next movie. skipping to the next movie is rarely done and this can be accomplished by pressing stop, down, & play.  So if i want to skip 10min i have to press FF first.  If the FF does not register and I press the skip it goes to the next movie. annoying.  These skip buttons should be used to skip 30 seconds.  This time should be a settable parameter so the user can decide.  I should not have to FF before skipping.  Also another thing i would like to add, when i use FF, the timeline and movie title takes over a third of my screen and is annoying if there is a pretty girl on the screen.  There should be a way to turn this off by pressing "back".  pressing "back" should limit the display to only show "x2" in the corner and pressing back again would toggle show more/less.  Every thing else with this player is very nice so I hope somebody can fix this fast forward skip thing for me.  Thank you for your time and enjoy your day.
