Media Library features missing

Hi guys,

Which firmware were you using? Latest

I have a SMP that plays media from my Synology NAS. The Media Library is completely unusable. Using any kind of sorting means scrolling or changing folder takes between 20 - 50 seconds in my experience. I thought the problem might be that there is a 100Mb link between the SMP and the NAS so I setup a 1Gb link between the two and it did not change anything. I do not think there is a resolution for this in the current firmware. The fact that the SMP has to go to the NAS, gather all the folders and files, sort them and filter them every time I change folder is crazy slow. A way around this would be to allow the data to be stored locally. A single db file with all the info about all the files and folders on the nas, as well as all the metadata and art. So I would like to suggest three changes for a future firmware

1. Add option to System -> Media Library. If there is a usb drive connected store all media library info on that. If that drive is disconnected then turn off media library and request new source i.e Network share or Media Server

2. Allow other devices to notify the WDTV Media Library of updates i.e A program like Sick Beard can notify my Synolgy NAS Media Server when it has updated a folder

3. Allow sorting on recently aired for  TV shows and release date for movies, like Plex or XBMC do, in the dashboard instead of just added date.

Options for thumbnails and backdrops

Could WD please enable a few options for thumbnails and backdrops.

With backdrops some of those on offer are unsuitable, and the image looks odd, or makes the text difficult to read.  In some cases some people would rather choose just one backdrop, or none at all.

It would be nice if, after pressing 'Options', then 'view Backdrops', you could disable some or all of them.

With thumbs it appears that the thumbnail chosen (from those available) can be pretty random.  One forum member has reported having the same film in HD and SD versions and a different thumb appearing for each!

It'd be nice if, as well as 'View Backdrops' under Options, you could 'View Thumbs', then choose which one you wanted.

Filtering

Could the 'Filtering' be expanded?

For example, could it be possible to filter, then filter again?  So at first I might filter by genre (say film noir), then actor (say Bogart), so at first it brings up all the films noir, then all of Bogart's films noir come up, but not Casablanca.

Secondly, could all actors and genres be accessed?  At the moment (again, as an example) Key Largo shows two genres - Dramas and Thriller.  Both of these are listed at TOMDB and both are in the XML file.  But if I filter by genre Key Largo shows only under Drama, and not as Thriller.

Channel4's 4OD Support (Ireland)

Status: Duplicate Idea
by on ‎11-19-2011 02:37 PM

We dont have BBC iPlayer here in Ireland, nor do we have Spotify or Hulu or Netflix.

But we have Channel4's 4 On Demand thing which has lots of programmes to watch.
So hope you could implement this so that the WDTV will be more relevant to us Irish customers.

Cheers!

On Daily Motion a keyboard will not allow input other that via the remote. It would also be good if we could login to our account on this service.
