Which firmware were you using? 1.06.04
What exactly happened? Picture freezes and after a while WD TV Live tells me something like that the USB drive is disconnected. Exakt message in swedish is:
"Varning
Utför säker utmatning av USB-enheten innan den tas bort. Välj en ny innehållskälla eftersom den ursprungliga innehållskällan har kopplats ifrån."
Directly translated to english it would be something like this:
"Warning
Perform a safe removal of the USB-unit before it is disconnected. Choose a new source since the old source has been disconnected."
This happens from time to time but more frequently when watching a 1080p file than e.g. a 720p or lower resolution.
After this happens the only way to use WD TV Live again is to disconnect the power or make a restart from the settings menu. It then rebuilds the Media Library which takes quite a long time.
What you were doing? Watching a mkv-file.
What hardware and media were you using? WD TV Live gen 3, Western Digital My Passport Essential 3.0 SE 1TB connected to the rear USB.

Does it happen every time? No, but every other time I watch a movie
Does it happen with previous firmware? Yes, it has happend with all previous firmware.
Does power cycling the unit solve it? Yes and no. If I remove the power completely it rebuilds the Media Library but if I only turn off the device using the remote it will not solve the problem.
Does resetting to factory defaults solve it? Haven't tried.
Have you tried this on other devices? No
Note:
The WD USB HDD has USB 3.0

Can anyone help. I have had a WD HDMI media player for a coupe of weeks.

Everything was going fine untill today when it simply will not work on my televison.

I can still move files across from my laptop, and the blue light is on and running ok etc. But when i try to play back on the TV through an HDMI cable it does not even show the home screen?

It also seems that the signal from the remote is not being recieved by the media drive.

Any ideas?

I upgraded my WD TV live SMP to 1.08.17 and no change, the problem with rear USB port still remains.
When this bug will be fixed?

Sorry for thread bump, but i thought i'd keep it in the original thread.

I have just updated to the very latest firmware and now it appears that the Rear USB is now working fine, admittedly i have not yet watched a whole movie, but previously the HDD would be ejected after about 10 seconds of video, i just watched about 5 minutes of Super 8 (cracking film by the way) and it was all fine and dandy with no ejects.

Has everyone else now resolved issues?

I have the exact same problem. If i connect an HD to my rear USB, wont work. But if i connect the same HD to the front USB, i will work without problems. Do i need to send my WDTV to the RMA?.

@ eddiev

Specify ending PN: 01 or 00 and the date of purchase.

Possible this will help with this issue and your question.

If you bought a week ago, I believe RMA does not make sense.

Unless this has not been fixed with the current firmware, we will close this issue out due to its age.

THIS HAS NOT BEEN FIXED WITH CURRENT FIRMWARE (Firmware 1.10.13) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This appears to be the same problem as reported here:  http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Issue/SMP-refuses-to-play-1080p-files-from-the-HDD-...
