I've been using my WDTV Live in my bedroom with our 26" TV connected using HDMI for months now and it's always worked reliably. Plays everything I throw at it. So now I'm thinking about replacing the computer in my living room with one. I pulled the unit form the bedroom and connected it in the living room in place of the current nettop machine and everything seems to be working great until I try to play a file. Video looks beautiful (especially at 92" projected on the screen), but I get no audio at all. No matter what I do it does not play audio. I have an Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver that has great audio support, but it seems as though the WDTV Live doesn't even recognize it's there. If I try to setup the audio automatically it says "The TV does not support this". I set it manually with DTS and Dolby True HD support, but I still get nothing. Tried Netflix, Hulu and a bunch of media from my file server to no avail. I see there's a lot of similar complaints in the forum and I hope someone has a suggestion. I've tried all of what I've seen so far and nothing has worked. I even tried downgrading the firmware to the last version available. I want this to work, I don't want to tack the WDTV Live onto my list of media devices with poor support (My Boxee already made that list for the unstable UI and no Hulu, Roku for not having the ability to stream from my file shares and Apple TV for being Apple...). Please tell me this issue is going to be resolved soon. The list of complaints about HDMI audio through receivers goes back two years, I hope this isn't a sign.

Hi I followed a previous thread on here (sorry, no link) and the instruction said to remove ALL 'tick boxes' in the Audio Options:-
Setup > Audio/Video Output > Audio Output > Digital Pass-Through via HDMI Only > Manual Setup > 6 Channel
I did this and I now get audio for all my HD streaming media.
However, the audio is in stereo only which, when you have shelled out for a decent A/V receiver, etc is pretty disappointing. I am hoping that there will be a resolution for this soon.

I think I read the same thread and still got nothing. Although if the audio receiver is capable of supporting the codecs listed, I would think all the box should have to do is pass it through. It seems like there's some level of audio handshaking not happening here and it may be because my projector doesn't have audio. The AV receiver passes the video through to the projector, but it should be able to intercept the audio if the WDTV was pushing anything through at all.

Well, I have an update!
Turns out this was not an issue with the WDTV at all. I have no idea why the one computer I was using worked so well, but I tried to setup a second computer for someone else using the receiver and I could not get sound through the Nvidia HDMI. Finally I reset the receiver to factory settings (hold VCR/DVR and power until it shows CLEAR on the screen) and set everything up all over again and suddenly I had sound. So I thought I should try to the WDTV again and see what happens. To my surprise it auto detected all the compatible sound formats for the receiver without a problem! Thank you!!!! I can finally get rid of the bulky HTPC systems and still have Netflix!
