USB disk unmounts after HD video freeze

Which firmware were you using? Last one.

What exactly happened? Video freezes with HD 1080p or 720p files and disconnects the hard disk (mybook essential 2tb usb 3.0).

What you were doing? watching mkv and avi files

What hardware and media were you using? WD TV live and WD mybook essential 2tb

Does it happen every time? with particular files, most of them, yes

Does it happen with previous firmware? yes, all of them

Does power cycling the unit solve it? no

Does resetting to factory defaults solve it? no

Have you tried this on other devices? I did try an episode in 720p that freezed with the mybook on a Sandsik 4gb pen drive, and it did not freeze.

When I'm watching a movie or an episode of a serial in 1080 or 720p, the video stops working, it freezes and after 20-30 seconds it unmounts the hard drive with a message that says something like "remember to remove safely your hard drive". The device is still working, but to make the livetv recognize the mybook again I have to reboot the livetv and unplug and plug back again the mybook.

Also, I have made the complete checkup of the disk with the WD software, and it passed it.

The place where i bought the livetv gave me a completly new one, and it gave me the same problems.

My problem is similar to this http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Issue/Loses-connection-to-USB-HDD/idc-p/365389#M140... that has not yet been solved.

Please HELP!

edit: it seems that the problem is very common http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Discussions/Intention-to-finalize-a-rear-USB-port-i.... As it turns out it's a problem with 3.0 usb hard disks mounted on the rear port of devices with serial numbers ending in -01. Why it takes so long to come up with a solution???

I have the exact same problem with the WD SMP. HDD WD 750GB USB 3.0 (WDBPCK7500ABK-EESN). Connecting the drive to the rear USB port  picture freezes and after a while WD TV Live tells me something like that the USB drive is disconnected.

This happens  when watching big file 1080p .

I tried firmware - 1.04.12  , 1.05.18 ,1.07.15 with resetting to factory defaults.No results.

After making a few other tries, I noticed that if I connect the Hard disk on the front port, the video does not freeze anymore. If I connect it on the rear port, the video freezes as always and it unmounts the disk.

However, the audio problem remains the same. I tried my mybook essential with a liveHUB and it gave me the same problem. Do I have to open another issue report?

2 months passed and the problem remains the same. I hope that someone is working on it.

Unless this has not been fixed with the current firmware, we will close this issue out due to its age.

The issue is not fixed. I recently went to the shop and substituted it for the third time, but the problem remains the same. Still waiting for a solution.

THIS HAS NOT BEEN FIXED WITH CURRENT FIRMWARE (Firmware 1.10.13) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This appears to be the same problem as reported here:  http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Issue/SMP-refuses-to-play-1080p-files-from-the-HDD-...

5 months has passed, and nothing changed. There is a big discussion in this forum with a lot of people with the same problem (http://community.wdc.com/t5/WD-TV-Live-Streaming-Discussions/Intention-to-finalize-a-rear-USB-port-i...), but WD doesn't respond.

I think it is an hardware problem, I will ask for a refounding.

I just added my own findings to that big discussion, Rockeye. Maybe there is something in there that can help you.
