Wall Mode with Trailer

Status: New
by ‎02-26-2011 11:41 PM - edited ‎04-02-2011 04:51 AM

Below is a sample image of a wall mode style. The image of the plane flying through the falling buildings is a still image in this example. What Im proposing is instead of a movie still, it is showing the trailer that is linked from youtube.com that is in the xml file. Also dont have it play automatically, but if you click on it it plays, if you click on it again it goes full screen.

The wall mode is also just an example. It more of the ability to place the trailer in any of the templates

Custom Moviesheet support!

Status: New
by ‎03-27-2011 05:20 AM - edited ‎04-20-2011 03:49 AM

As wd staff have surely noticed,

Many of us are not satisfied with the current gallery view, and prefer to use custom made moviesheets like

These sheets or views are supported by other media players like the xtreamer,ACryan and

mede8er

So why not the wdtv live hub?

So, what i propose is to have a moviesheet view.

whereby,

if folders are arranged like that:

/folder

movie.mkv

movie.xml

movie.jpg   -- cover box/thumbnail

sheet.jpg   -- moviesheet. or (movie_sheet.jpg)

Then when selecting the folder, the sheet.jpg is displayed.

This can also be used if all movies are in a single folder.

No Need to design special themes!

Improve network transfer speeds

Status: Unplanned
by ‎03-29-2011 01:31 AM - edited ‎05-22-2011 03:50 AM

Current file transfer speeds are poor. If the lack of the cpu resources is the issue here, is it possible to add ability to boot into new mode dedicated ONLY for transferring files, e.g. "file transfer mode". In this mode we could use ALL cpu and hardware resources only for file transfers. All we need here is SAMBA share without any overhead like media streaming, GUI etc.

Please consider this idea! I believe ALL users would be thrilled with improved transfer speeds.

Status: Unplanned
Unfortunately, this is at the best this platform can do. This is not a traditional NAS.

Drop the 'THE'

Another feature request would be to ignore the 'THE' from video file names. So titles like 'The Godfather' show up with the titles under the letter 'G' rather than after the letter 'S'.

Interesting input. We'll look into this.

Metadata for entire folder

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎01-24-2011 02:42 AM

Hi,

i have many tv series on my drive and its pointless to add metadata for each file. It would  be nice to create one xml file with metadata to entire folder.

Status: Acknowledged
Noted. This is something we are looking into. Thanks for your feedback.

Numeric sorting (ie 1 as 01)

Status: New
by on ‎03-10-2012 07:57 PM

Hello,

Currently, when files (for example episodes) have numbers and the first 1 - 9 have only one character, they aren't sorted properly. This is how it sorts:

1

10

11

12

13

..

19

2

20

..

3

30

.. and so on.

Wouldn't it be more logical to do it like this:

1

2

3

4

..

9

10

11

.. and so on.

This is easy to implement and i'm sure that even if this idea doesn't get any kudos everybody is helped with it and it wouldn't affect anybody in a bad way.

Faster menu navigation

Contrary to most people posting on the forums, my WD HD Live Hub works perfectly. My personal movie collection, blockbuster, netflix, photos, etc. Love it.

My only beef with the unit so far is the response time between the remote and on screen navigation. Let's say I want to scroll down 5 items. I am going to press the down button fairly rapidly until I am within 1-2 of my selection, then slow down my button presses until I reach my selection. It may be hardware limiting, but a remote / on screen sync that reacts within 50-100ms instead of what I feel like is 500ms per button press.

Got your input. We'll check into this.

Media library compilation and update

Status: Implemented
by ‎01-21-2011 09:59 PM - edited ‎02-02-2011 04:37 AM

After media library finished compiling, and suppose we add a new file to the disk or a network share.

The file won't be displayed unless we clear the media library or restart the hub, so that the compilation restarts.

This is quite a hassle, as suppose i'm in an urge to watch a movie and i have to do all of the above to watch it.

It Would be nice, if the hub could scan the network shares to detect any new files and add it to the media library, without recompiling the entire media library.

Or perhaps provide a refresh option to rescan the share/folder?

Status: Implemented
A Rescan option has been added. And a timer rescan has been added with Media Library Manager.

DLNA video and subtitle streaming

Status: New
by on ‎03-25-2013 12:50 PM

WDTVLive Hub supports DLNA streaming of videos on all DLNA compatible devices, e.g. smart TVs.

Although video streaming is flawless, subtitle streaming is not currently supported.

For all owners needing subtitles, DLNA streaming is so far useless.

Please consider this!

Support for Amazon on Demand?

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎01-31-2011 08:50 AM

Blockbuster is fine, but could we get support for Amazon on Demand as well? Unlike Blockbuster, Amazon offers season passes on current TV shows. Thanks for considering.

Status: Acknowledged
Thanks for your input. We'll look into supporting Amazon's service.

Navigation by chapters in MKV with PREV / NEXT buttons

Status: Acknowledged
by ‎01-21-2011 12:15 PM - edited ‎02-21-2011 08:46 AM

Now it works in dvd files (.ISO files and VIDEO-TS folder), but don't works in MKV

ps. this idea is also actual to MKA, TS and other containers that support the chapters

Status: Acknowledged
This sort of conflicts with the original purpose of NEXT/PREV which is to skip to the next or prev file. We'll evaluate this.

JUMP 10 SEC FORWARD, 30 SEC FORWARD...

Status: Acknowledged
by on ‎01-25-2011 11:40 PM

This was discussed in the main forum a while back, cannot remember who suggested it, but a great idea.

Fast-forwarding in most codecs can be quite a nasty experience ! Why not utilize the arrow-keys (up, down, left, right) and make them "jump" ahead or back in the playing movie.

Say, left and right arrow, jump 10 sec. forward or backward. Up and Down, jump 30 sec. forward or backward...

zballz.

Status: Acknowledged
By pressing FF + Next keys, user can actually skip the video by 5min. Is that too much or better be user adjustable?

TV Shows...

Status: Implemented
by on ‎06-02-2011 06:12 PM

Hello WD, I think it would be great to have a "TV Shows" in the menu, so you can chnge "video" to "Movies" and also have showing "TV Shows" in the menu.....

I really dont understand how hard that would be, but I really think it would be VERY useful to everybody...

you could maybe have the Hub search for a "Movies" folder in the hard drive and anything in that it could list it under "Movies" and then have a "TV Shows" folder and anything in that could be listed under "TV Shows".....

what do you think people?

many thanks...

Status: Implemented
TV Show has been added as a Filter option.

It would be great if there was a way to combine all the metadata from the internal storage and the network shares, so when one filters on "genre", etc you would get a list from all devices, not just the one from the currently connected device. This would allow a seemless movie retrieval list regarding where the movie actually resides.

Add "Refresh Library" to Favourites menu

Status: New
by on ‎03-16-2013 09:41 AM

It is maddening how counter-intuative the so called media Library can be

Please add the ability to select Favourites, Select a Favourite, Select Menu and have "Refresh" be an option.

use a set of arrows for volume level

Status: New
by on ‎01-25-2011 08:29 PM

if we could do this during playback we could eliminate a second remote just for volume!

I've been asking for this for years!!

Seems like it should be easy to do.

I'm not saying make the remote control other products, but adjust the volume output of the hub.

The MUTE button was a nice addition, but UP & DOWN would be awesome!!

Visualizer Screensaver

by ‎04-07-2013 07:40 PM - edited ‎04-07-2013 07:50 PM

I would like a visualizer style screensaver. I listen to a lot of Pandora and would love something to look at instead of WD floating around or pictures. The example below is from iTunes and would be on the extreme side. Just something basic to start with would be awesome, then other people might have input.
