ITunes playlists through WD2go

Status: Unplanned

Please make it so ITunes playlists can be played remotely through the wd2go app.
Status: Unplanned
technically I don't think this is feasible. However; playlist support in general is something that we want to look at for future apps.

Dear WDTony,

Yet again I see you have shut down the thread on the Sharespace Twonky upgrade issue by making it unplanned and yet again with zero explanation?:smileysad:

Please explain to all the Sharespace owners why you are ignoring us? Is it because you have a new toy in the way of the DX4000 and now don't really care about the Sharespace or its owners?

If this is the case that would be a very poor move by WD as your reputation in the NAS arena is going down.

I would say the Twonky upgrade is wanted by majority of Sharespace owners that use it as a Media server.

Dear Sharespace owners,

Please support me in getting our Sharespace's regularly updated to fix the bugs and Twonky.

I have notice firmware upgrades included the the compatibility and additional use of the WD Photo app which works like a dream, why not have the WD 2go app work as well and reduce frustrations with Mionet.

Status: Unplanned
The software differences and changes are too significant to upgrade the World Edition II to support WD 2go.

Unrar function for Sharespace

by on ‎12-07-2011 01:12 AM

I get a lot of comressed files (.rar), and I´d like to be able to unrar them directly on my Sharespace, saving me the trouble (and time!) of doing it wirelessly through my laptop.

Twonky Version Upgrade for WD Network Drives

Status: Unplanned
by on ‎11-27-2011 05:53 PM

WD please upgrade your firmware on your Network Drives to include the FREE ! Upgrade offered by Twonky for version 5 users to use version 6 for FREE !

Other NAS suppliers such as QNAP did this a couple of years ago (see link)

http://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=213&t=38026

This seems to be a Hot topic for allot of WD NAS owners and we are not getting any reasonable answers out of WD.

I notice the WD team put this Twonky upgrade idea straight to Unplanned status so no one can add further comments or give Kudos.

WD need to provide a full explanation on why we can't have the free Twonky upgrade when other NAS suppliers can supply it?

WDTony please don't change this to unplanned and please provide us with a real answer on where the Media Server software is headed for the current WD NAS products.

Thanks for listening.

Sentinel DX 320000!!! 32 Bay NAS!

Status: Unplanned
by on ‎11-15-2011 09:52 AM

I would love to see a 32 Bay NAS from WD. This would finally allow me to store my entire home video collection on a single drive (at least once 4+ TB drives come out) and would be an amazing thing to have. Right now the largest bay from other hard drive manufactuers (who shall not be named) only go up to 8 and 16 bays and are still too small for my needs- as I am sure they are too small for many other peoples as well.

Status: Unplanned
However, products with a larger quantity of bays are certainly not out of the question for future products.

I think there needs to be a way to access My book WORLD edition remotely from my Android phone and/or iPad.  I understand that there is MIONET, however, I can not use MIONET as Java is not supported on either device.  I have seen other ideas for a creation of MIONET mobile, and the soultion is WD2GO.  However, WD2GO is only for the My Book LIVE edition not My Book WORLD.  There has to be away to access my MBWED remotely from my mobile device.  With they way things are going these days as far as devices, mobile remote access is starting to becoming a standard, and the whole reason for a NAS is exactly that, to be able to access remote from anywhere!  There is not always going to be a computer around.. Please consider a solution for users who want to access their MBWE remotely from their mobile device.  Thanks.

Hello

Since I recommended the support of my request, WD has to speak here, I do it just once.

I would like my My Book Live 3TB e.g. have completely eliminated from 01.00-15.00 clock. This could be done via a timer, you would just kill it every time the operating system, which discourages the WD support. But if it were a possibility in the firmware, go to the My Book Live down at a certain time, then you could then disconnect the AC power switch and turn on the desired time, the My Book Live again. So you could also save the 4.5W power, the need for the My Book Live disconnected drive still.

So give me your voice, so that you want to have a function, so it is WD's time built into the firmware. Do you have other ideas on how to realize my wish? Or is there someone who just live off his My Book with a timer or separating it from the network without shutting down?

This feature has been requested before. This would require extensive hardware and software changes to the current product.

WD Digital Frame

I would love for WD to make a photo frame that was specifially designed to work with the My Book Live and other WD NAS products. While the Kodak frame I currently have works, I'd much rather use the same brand as the drive I'm using to store my precious pictures.

Partitions & Apple TV Support

Status: Unplanned
by on ‎06-22-2011 08:03 AM

My Book Live needs two things:

1. It needs to give me an option to create partitions

2. It needs to work seamlessly with Apple TV

If anyone at Western Digital is listening (or reading) please work on this, especially the ability to partition!

:-)

Status: Unplanned

I you need partitions, you should buy a Direct Attached drive. You can use WIndows/Mac to partition that. We don't support "partitioning" the drive. You can create shares to separate out content. Not sure what you want by Seamlessly with Apple TV. If Apple opened up their ecosystem, sure we might be able to do that. Since they don't we can't do anything.

Twonky 6 for Sharespace

My idea for the My Book Live and a solid reason for the idea to be implemented.
I saw the reply, also seen a few comments about lack of bugs, but that is just a burying WDC's head in the sand when there is a bug there that will prevent the TwonkyServer from starting up because it can somehow self-corrupt it's own database. The request is to get TwonkyServer 6 tested and released within a not so far from the present date.

There were specific reasons we went with this version Twonky. Unlikely that we will move to the next version.

Below is evidence and a very good and solid reason not to stick with v5.1.9.

The NAS has not endured any power outages or unplanned shutdowns and is behind a good quality RFI and Surge arrestor.
Sure, I'm skilled enough to troubleshoot this problem (took a few hours, initially) without resorting to a full or quick factory restore, but what about everyone else.  Not a good policy to hide behind the instruction...  "You have to start the MSL back from blank again."
(Mind you...  Writing that...  It could be MySQL that's the faulty component or a combination of both.)
Go on...  Put on TronkyServer 6.  You know you want to.  (Or if WDC ends up being unlucky this could end-up being put in some nationally read technology magazine as a review.  Well...  Someone might.  It's probable.)

On the NAS to have a maintenance option to restore any one individual software component. So, as an example, if something within Twonky Media Server become currupt then the proposed option to correct this would be, after a click and confirmation, to automagically remove all trace of Twonky Server and then re-install it WITHOUT having to perform a full factory restore.

Also, an easy way to initiate a file system integrity check on demand would be a ice reassuring touch.

(For the next firmware update...)

Thanks for the ideas (similar to the other one you posted). This is not within the scope of the NAS software stack so no likely to ever happen. Keep them coming !

Disable Public Share

Status: Unplanned
by on ‎04-15-2011 06:38 AM

On MyBook Live the default share "Public" has unrestricted R/W and can't be disabled.

I would like to have the option of  turning off the default share "Public".

Status: Unplanned
The Public share is just that Public. You can always create other shares to restrict access.

Make twonky stream movie and folder icons

Status: Unplanned
by ‎04-14-2011 11:17 AM - edited ‎07-19-2011 01:07 AM

In current state when viewing video library via Media Server with Twonky on WDTV, all files and folders appear as default blank rectangles.

In network shares mode, all video file and folder shows the JPG icon attached (assumed having the same filename or folder.jpg).

I suggest that you make twonky show the JPG files for folders and video/audio files.

Version 5.1.7 is very old revision of Twonky Mediaserver and it does't support *.mkv file.

Please update Twonky or write instructions how I can update it in WD Sharespace 4Tb

Integration of a universal download manager for http, share servers, torrent & ed2k  links like other nas manufacturers have included in their firmwares and have had very positive feedback.
