Having the Public share in WD My Cloud EX4 is a major security flaw. It allows anyone including hackers and criminals in the network to put child pornography into the product. This not only exposes the owner to substantial legal liability, but also causes severe harm to the community. Please regard it as a public safety issue of the product.
I would like WD to give the owners of My Cloud EX4 the ability to delete the default Public share or restrict the access to it on the next firmware update.
Hi. Could you think to provide in future updated version of Apps (Wordpress, Joomla, PHPmyAdmin, etc.) on EX2/EX4, due severe security issues (and limited/old features) on existing version ? Thanks & Regards
The process named "convert" in WD My Cloud EX4 causes severe performance and availability problems as well as unnecessary wear of hard drives. After putting many files into the EX4 unit, the convert process begins to consume CPU 100% and cause many unnecessary I/O activities on the hard drives until the owner reboots the unit.
(Update: Firmware 1.02.36 cut CPU consumption down to 40%.)
Like many others, I expect EX4 to be a 24x7 reliable storage system with good consistent performance. I do not need media streaming and cloud capabilities. I do not want to waste system resources to have my files analyzed to be classified whether they are videos or photos. I'd be more than happy if EX4 reported 100% of my files classified as "Other" without looking at any of them.
I would like WD to provide the owners of My Cloud EX4/EX2 with the Dashboard options to disable the "convert," "wdmcserver," "wdphotodbmerger," and other processes that generate metadata, thumbnails, and hidden folders so that they will never run again on a future firmware update.
On my EX4 I would like to be able to login to the console and see a screen that shows what users are connected and what files are currently open or downloading. Bonus points if I could set a throttle limit for their downloads so it doesn't kill my crappy upload speeds.
After attaching a WD MyBook drive via USB3 port to the EX2, I realized the whole drive becomes a share and that too a public share, allowing all my users coming in from outside to delete stuff there.
1. I would like to create shares from specific root directory folders on the USB drive and not the whole USB drive to become a share.
2. More importantly, I would like to configure permissions on this share from the attached USB drive. I have friends coming in from outside and I would like to be able to configure who has what access on this share. Without at least this level of permissions, this USB facility on the EX2 is really not secure for most users.
3. Finally, I would like to be able to turn ftp ON or OFF on this USB share - just like the shares on EX2 where I can turn ftp ON/OFF individually on the shares. For example, I chose to turn ftp off for the Public share but kept ftp ON my other EX2 shares, and would like to do the same to the USB attached drive share.
FYI - I am using a Windows formatted USB (My Book) drive for the USB share.
Please add option for secure webdav connections. Currently able to share folders via webdav but require third party software on Windows 7 and above since it currently does not offer a secure connection. Please see post in forums - http://community.wd.com/t5/WD-My-Cloud-EX2/Secure-WEBDAV/td-p/764830 - for further info of current workarounds. Surely since webdav is already implemented it can't be too hard to add secure connections to next firmware update?
I have seen that someone else had this problem. Currently time scheduling is only possible between 00:01am and 11.59pm. This might be good for a normal business but not if you have people working on a different schedule. We need to schedule our WD EX2 from 9am to 2am the next mornig. A new release of this tool would be very appreciated as I an sure we are not the only ones working at nights!
I would like to see the settings for the UPS added to the GUI. I currently have my UPS connected via the USB port on the back of the EX2. The EX2 will not shutdown until the UPS battery gets to 10%. This is unacceptable because my UPS like many is prone to a very steep battery fall-off after 50%. This causes the UPS to go ahead and drop to zero output BEFORE the EX2 can get shutdown. Because of this I would like to error on the side of caution and be able to tell my EX2 to shutdown as soon as it receives the running on battery message from my UPS.
I would like it (and I am sure other people will find use for it too) that somehow we can have BitTorrent Sync as a 3rd party app to install on the My Cloud EX2/EX4:
I have been waiting for the dropbox app to re-appear but considering that BitTorrent Sync does not connect with a server online and is only syncing with your devices, I think this will make it more like your "own personal cloud".
Please include the ability to make USB shares private. Currently, USB shares are public and open to everyone. The NAS is unusable as a shared device unless all users are assumed to have full read/write access to the data on the USB device. Apparently, previous versions/generations of WD NAS did not overlook this critical feature. This missing feature seems to be a glaring omission in the EX4.
I have a backup job created for a remote backup WD EX2 -> WD EX2. The backup job works, however, when i added a new folder to my NAS and i wanted that to be backed up, I have no possibility to add the new folder to my existing backup job. I don't see any editing button for a created backup. In this case, i have to delete my existing job and create a new one, or just create a new job ONLY for the new folder. Both of this options are inconvenient.
i would like it if this suggestions goes to the WD development team to improve the GUI and practicability of this device. It's quite hard to manage a remote backup ( which is mandatory for a NAS to exclude single point of failure) if you have to redo all the previous work only for a new folder.
please add firewall apps like iptable or ufw in ex2 to control & restrict access to the device from inside the unit, most, firewall apps are available in most of linux distributions and don’t have much load on the cpu
wireless routers don't support firewall access rules inside the local network over IP
for example 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.25 access the cloud ,192,168.1.26 - 192.168.1.255 be restricted

Please implement solution to this also for EX2 My Cloud Device!
