I understand the intent of SmartWare to assist the average user in backing up critical files on their computer. However, for the experienced/professional user they should be able to delete the Smartware from the drive and recover the lost diskspace and disable the VCD in the firmware. We resell thes drives and expected to have the advertised storage space on the drives. The expectation was to connect the drive to any computer which would recognise it as a standard storage device. We have already had several clients return the drives and this is creating an issue.
I'll post this on the ideas page, but would be interesting to see how many others think this is a good idea (thus getting WD to think its a good idea).
Background. I've been using "Public" folder on my My Duo Live to share all my Home videos, Movies, Photos, Music etc... I've grown increasingly uncomfortable with this, as anyone who can gain access to my home network, can effectively delete all the information with no passwords required. Basically anonymous users have full write access in that share and there is no way to change it. This could be a guest with their teenage children which stays at our house, and uses the wifi network (which is passworded) and browses around the place and gets up to mischievous. Or it could be family members who make a mistake etc... Or it could be a virus on a laptop/PC which looks around the network for things to corrupt/destroy. Various scenarios could be used.
So, I've moved all our photos etc... to a private share. This works great, and my WD TV live supports this fine, as does WD 2go. The only thing which is an issue is the WD photo app as it only supports the public share. Other users have complained re this limitation. Does anyone know if WD is planning address as I would think its an easy enough problem to fix? As I'm unwilling to go back to using the public share, which basically makes this app useless.
I'm considered doing something with symlinks on the My Duo Live itself, but suspect this will cause other issues.
Note, I can really recommend the WD TV live, it really complements the WD my duo live, as it provides all the missing functionality around thumbnails/playlists etc...
would like to see the option to play entire albums, genres, or complete collection of music via wd 2 go as at present you can only play one track then go back into folder to select next and a similar thing happens with photos in you only get one at a time so unlike wd photos where you can flick through entire albums in wd2go you again have to go back to main folder to select another photo and i would like to see it work like wdphoto app so you can view all photos from albums in a slide mode
I would like to be able to access files from my Android mobile device. My Android browser does not use Java's .class files; rather, it recognizes .dex files. Any development in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
I'd like the ability to be able to choose the folder that my Android-based phone will auto-upload to. Actually, it would be perfect if I could upload to the person who registered the device to.
I wanted to use my MyCloud for my family and have it backup our mobile phone photos but to their respective user locations.
I am also hoping one day soon that I can add the WD Photos app to my Wife's phone and have it AUTO upload her images to her location on the MyCloud. But I've seen that suggested numerous times already.
The Windows Phone 7.5 (particularly post-Mango) is becoming much more popular and is finally gaining market share. For good reasons...for once, albiet belatedly, MS has put out a quality product that rivals and sometimes even exceeds the Android and iOS competition.
I would very much appreciate a WP7 implementation for WD 2go. To do so now rather than later would be impressively forward-thinking.
The default behaviour of this device is to power on when connected to a power supply. This is annoying as the device will start up after a power failure instead of returning to a standby state. With HDMI CEC activated, this also causes my TV and Receiver to power on after a power failure.
Please change the default behaviour to standby when connected to power, or at least provide an option so we can disable auto power on.
Using Java in the browser is a terrible idea from a security and compatiblity perspective. There are a ton of security exploits and java in the browser should just be disabled by default. Also many mobile browsers don't support it.
WD 2go is a great App!! But it only plays videos on the iOS device. It does not do TV Out or support Airplay. I want to be able to connect my iPad to the my TV via the 32pin cable with the HDMI adapter, and also use Apple TV and AirPlay to steam videos from my My Book Live Duo.
Others may have started a post about this but I haven't seen anything get pushed up so thought I'd start my own and see if my title got people's attention better.
I am a developer and have many .bat, .exe, .log, and tons of other files that are not backed up because SmartWare will not do it as explained in ANSWER ID3644. Any person that uses their computer for more than personal media and office documents will have this problem. I'd greatly appreciate it if no extensions where excluded at all. Only backing up the types of files that WD thinks I should back up makes me have to use another product to do my backups. As a user I want to know that SmartWare is backing up everything in a directory that I tell it to. System data and hidden files I understand but what about all those other files types that WD didn't account for that it excludes!? I don't want to have to look through my backup to make sure it backed up the files I wanted
There are many ways to fix this:
1. Whenever anyone selects Other in Detailed View for backups have Other actually include everything else regardless of file type.
2. Provide a checkbox that says something like "Exclude Unsafe File Types". If this is unchecked then all those binary files we programmers made for ourselves or work can get backed up
3. Provide a new screen that allows a user to customize their own constraints.
Please, please give some kudos to this! It's the only thing keeping me from relying on SmartWare for my backups. You just can't trust backup software that backs up the file types it thinks you need. Come on developers click KUDOS!
I like wd2go.com and there is one thing that niggles me. This is the front door to cloud storage that one would trust all their data with. More than Google drive, Dropbox, box, Amazon, etc...
Google accounts gives the option for two factor authentication and so does Dropbox which used Google's autnenticator.
Could WD2GO implemet two factor authentication? This need not cost WD more. Text messaging could be omitted with the user being e-mailed a time limited 6 digit code or use a recovery code if the authenticator is not available.
I would be a sleep a lot more each night knowing that if my WD2GO.COM user name and password was snatched that a hackwe would be stumped because they won't have access to my e-mail account, recovery code or code generator.
When uploading images from mobile devices today they are uploaded in random order and given a new name. I would suggest, that the images are uploaded sorted by date and time. When showing images to friend and family it is a better experience that the images is shown sorted by date and time. Hollyday images are much more fun to watch sorted.
What would make the wd 2go and my book live a truly great personal/small business cloud storage product are the following enhancements:
1. Merge the functionality of wd photos into wd 2go. You don't need two products.
2. Please show thumbnails for photo files.
3. Please provide "tv out" function support in wd 2go on iPad, iPhone. This will be fantastic to be able to stream to TV directly,
4. Provide support to play .mpg video files natively in iPad, iPhone and not to pass off to another app as in "open in" menu. This will bring a lot of the older videos into my book live cloud store, thereby increasing demand for storage, which is good for Western Digital's business.
5. Please provide support to email link to "folders" instead of just files (dropbox style). This will allow to be able to share whole albums. This should be done by providing link to an URL and not zipped file containers.
6. And lastly (for now), provide the same support on iPad, iPhone that exists on Android devices and wd photos on iPad, that is: expor/upload local device content to my book live.
Hi, I've bought ShareSpace & am very disappointed to learn that I'm not able to access MioNet on my iPhone due to Java & that only WD Photo app is available on iPhone. Hence, I would like to suggest that WD develop an all-in-one app for iPhone instead of only Photo. This new app should be similar to QNap's iphone app - accessable to view photos, watch videos, play music & access data/files/documents from the NAS. Looking forward for such app soon! Thanks!
