You really should allow modified content just like the other two have, people love the ability to show off there new tech even more so if they can modify it a little and make it ultra cool! As it stands your Hub version and the WDLiveTv gen 1/2 are the only ones that allow this if i had known that when i was ordering 3 gen 3's i would of got the earlier models!

Themes are good, but custom movie sheets and less firmware limitation is better why is some the old stuff ALWAYS better thanthen new stuff!!?!

I fully agree, please allow modding.  Not just aesthetics, but allow people to add features and enhance the device.  There are loads of skilled inidividuals out there who could make the SMP really shine. I can't see any logical reason not to do this, it'd shift more units and make your customers happy.

This is still "New" ?  Come on WD, at least comment on this idea, it's been kudoed 85 times!

I'm putting my WD TV Live Gen3 on eBay. If WD ever open up the firmware I'll buy another one. Until then I'll get a used Gen2.

Actually, there is no mod FW for the HUB.

Only the Live & Live Plus have mod FW.

Not sure why they block 3rd party FW, but it can't be because it boosts product appeal. If anything, the fact that bugs go unresolved month after month after month with their exclusive FW probably discourages sales. Another case of "big company" disease.

+1 allow modding ... give us ability to load plugins!

- playlists - FIX THIS UP PROPERLY im talking shuffling, sorting, adding, removing, saving for both music and videos... this is something apple got wrong with ipods to being with, eventually fixed, pretty much standard on other devices

- play all files in a folder by default, then have play all repeat, repeat and random
- bookmarks for playing files.... say im in the middle of a movie and need to go off do something, i want to book mark the location and come back later.... put it in dashboard... nearly standard on other devices

- shortcuts.... eg to network shares, eg virtual folders make it easier to organise stuff without a library, put it in dashboard

- better support for network shares nfs/samba/windows or otherwise, so many problems with it being slow, how about different passwords for different devices?

- customize the interface more inbuilt

- store the media library sure somewhere, but use a database to do it, its a mess of files everywhere!

- skip forward 5/10/15 secs option.... standard!

- shoutcast/icecast servers that arnt in the shoutcast directory, **bleep** better support for internet streaming mms etc!

- music visualizations! GEEZ, this is an easy one, support the ones to like R4 too

- shutdown timer, if its not doing anything

- more options on the web interface

- support for usb cdrom drives

- support for wireless usb keyboard mouse combo (eg logitech and ms)

- more support for australian media sites, google sites,  etc, **bleep** put in a simple web browser?

- internet podcasts from xml/rss.... need i say more!

- file listing views is good, but you need 1 more, list all files, top to bottom, no player, and if you need in files, you can see size, date, delete, copy, move etc

thats about my wish list! :smileyhappy:

It [Deleted] that this third gen cannot be updated with a custom firmware anymore. I think that it has been one very important selling point of previous models. It's bad that we have no way of expanding functionalities of this media player. It lacks many important functionalities and has bugs that WD probably can't or won't fix. If modding was possible, bugs had been fixed months ago. Maybe it's time to move on and change to some other vendor's media player that doesn't have stupid restrictions. People don't want to be restricted anymore. Vendors who understand that will be succesful in the future. Openess is the word of the day.

I personally think this is a good idea. I mean look at the Appstore and Cydia store. User created content is on par if not better than Apples's software. Although Cydia is illegal, communities members with permission could create exciting things for WD.

Almost a year on, the most kudo'd post in the suggestions trashcan and it's still marked as new.
