I tried a trick to circumvent the framerate-matching prior DVD-playback. I started some other file with 25fps, and the WDTV matched the framerate (switched to 720p@50Hz). Then I pressed next (a PAL-DVD-iso was next in order), and the WDTV wasn't crashing (yay) BUT it "matched" the framerate to 60Hz! This also happens with DVD-Menu off. Very strange behavior.

@Strider

So it's not useful pointing out your assumed (!) 1080p60 is NOT part of the problem discussed here? Suit yourself.

@Techflaws

No, it's never useful to post lies. The SMP is perfectly capable of outputting at 1080p with a 60 Hz rate.  And not only that, but that's what it defaults to when I play a DVD. Whether it internally handles only 30 fps or not is beyond what I asked.

Maybe you assumed (!) that it doesn't support such mode because it's not able to decode 1080p video at 60 fps, or maybe you thought that I was talking about 60 actual frames per second. But why would the latter be the case, if I'm asking about modes supported by the TV? The TV doesn't care about actual frames per second, only about the refresh rate of the incoming signal.

I threw in the "1080p60" (referring to 1080p@60Hz) question in there because a lot of 720p sets don't support that mode (and it was asked mostly just in case); but before that question, came the really important one about the "768p" resolution. Sure, 1080p@60Hz is most certainly not the root of this problem, but where was the harm in asking just in case?

The reason why you _apparently_ attacked my whole post (both questions) because you found the second (least important) question absurd is beyond me. To make matters worse, you did so with lies. In fact, I don't even know why I'm taking my time to respond to you.

The manual states 1080p30 as maximum which means the WD is not able to decode 1080p video at 60 fps, right? Thus I saw no relevance in your question about what your TV can handle since the WDTV can't output it anyway. But if we are talking about cross purposes I'd appreciate you chalking that up to my cluelesness rather than lies or attacks. Thank you.

Tech, the WD is actually sending 60p to the TV; doesn't matter what the source video is.

This is about the HDMI resolution / refresh setting, not the media framerate.
